One of scifiΓÇÖs longest running magazines, Astounding Science-Fiction first began publication in January 1930. The magazine first came into being by an accident of the printing press. The pulp magazine publisher Will Clayton needed to fill a blank space on the large press sheet on which all the covers of his various magazines were printed simultaneously. He suggested a new monthly comprised of period-adventure stories, an idea which one of his editors, Harry Bates, turned into Astounding Stories of Super-Science.
